Биография

 August Emanuel Glucksberg (1804-1881)
He was an apprentice to his father’s company and probably to F. Didot in Paris. In 1830 August Emanuel developed the type foundry which had been established by his father, Natan Glucksberg. Afterwards, August Emanuel sold the foundry to the Bank of Poland. He also inherited a bookstore from his father and opened a lending library. Moreover, he started to issue various books from 1832. He published titles concerning mainly farming, belles-lettres, pedagogy and science, for example: “Dzieła” (“Works”) by J. Śniadecki, “Obraz historii powszechnej” (“A View of Universal History”) by L. Rogalski, “Dzieje Jana Sobieskiego” (“The History of Jan Sobieski”) by N. Salvandy. August Emanuel Glucksberg was a co-publisher of the “Magazyn Powszechny” magazine. He wanted to publish “Encyklopedia Powszechna” (“Universal Encyclopedia”) together with his brother, Krystian Teofil, but this undertaking was unsuccessful. August Emanuel Glucksberg ceased his publishing activity and sold every book from the collections he had. Among these books, there were those which he owned as well as expensive book editions from Paris. Glucksberg died in Berlin.
