Immigration of William Hordas
In 1914 Yehoshua Velvl Hordes immigrates to the US from Bobruisk and establishes the American branch of the family. The money for the trip to the US was given to him by his father in the form of a load of wood to be sold in Germany. Upon his arrival Yehoshua takes the name William. He spends the first time in the US in New York. Though William arrived richer than an average immigrant the money was enough only for a short period of time and he had to perform jobs like painting. After spending some time in New York, he gets accepted to work for Ford in Detroit (Ford paid a huge salary for that time - five dollars per day). He does not work at Ford's for long however and goes on to establish his own bussiness - an insurance agency. He gets married and Detroit becomes the residence place of the family in the US.
