Польский славист, участник Второй мировой войны, составитель «Большого польско-русского словаря». Окончил гимназию в Праге. В 1939 г. переехал к отцу в Варшаву, где изучал славистику в университете. Служил в польской армии. В боях с немецкими войсками попал в плен. Бежал из плена, занимался подпольной деятельностью. Во время нацистской оккупации Польши спас еврейскую девушку. Был включен в список неевреев, жертвовавших собою (пребывая на оккупированной территории вынужден был креститься, чтобы остаться в живых). В Яд ва-Шеме в его честь на Аллее Праведников посажено дерево.
