Commodity broker and merchant banker Born in Danzig, the son of a Russian grain merchant, Harry Kissin qualified as a lawyer at the University of Basel. He moved to London in 1934 to become a company director in the City. After 1945 he worked with the merchant banker Sir Siegmund Warburg in a company trading with eastern Europe, and also became the head of Guinness Peat, a major commodity firm. In 1974, he was awarded a life peerage, Baron Kissin of Camden, by Harold Wilson, with whom he had worked with in the 1950s. Kissin was chairman of the Royal Opera House Trust and the Institute of Contemporary Art, and a governor of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. See also the article.
