Как историк науки участвовал в издании серий «Классики биологии и медицины» и «Классики науки», подготовил к изданию собрания писем Ч. Дарвина, А. О. и В. О. Ковалевских, И. И. Мечникова. Автор монографий о Каспаре Фридрихе Вольфе и истории развития генетики.
