Погиб во время второй мировой войны. Данные взяты из генеалогического дерева семьи Закс из Франфурта на Майне. По воспоминаниям Софии Эльяшевой (матери): "Летом 1941 года 19 июня Гайрик окончил школу и к началу июля 1941 года должна была состояться поездка на рижское взморье на дачу к Заксам, должно было состояться знакомство моего сына с детьми моего (двоюродного) брата. 22 июня убило все".
