Стал в Люблине одним из первых (с 1557 и до своей смерти) издателей (печатал Пятикнижие, Талмуд, махзор – по-немецки и по-польски, множество других книг, в том числе – «Левушим» Мордехая Яффе). Согласно привилегии, полученной от Стефана Батория (1578), обеспечивалась едва ли не монопольная позиция Калмана на издательском рынке: запрещалось переиздавать выпущенные Калманом книги и ввозить религиозную литературу из-за границы. Его типографским знаком было изображение Храма. В 1573 г. он возглавил типографию своего зятя, просуществовавшую до конца XVII в. (с 1604 г. типографский знак - олень и рыбы).
