Назван предположительно в честь деда, отца матери Яхи Мордуховны. Мордух (Марк, Мотя) Гельфгат Жена и дочери Моти в феврале 1942 года уехали в эвакуацию в Фергану. Сам он остался в Переяслав-Хмельницком. Он верил, что война скоро закончится, и даже отговорил свою мать, Яху Ровенскую, ехать в эвакуацию в Казахстан с семьёй младшей дочери Ханы-Рахили: мол, ты уже старая, кому ты нужна, ехать очень далеко и трудно, а война скоро закончится.
