Фамилия звучала как Эберст или Эбершт. Был кантором кельнской синагоги; в 1830 г. он издал "Allgemeines Gebetbuch für die israelitische Jugend". Его прозвище было - Оффенбахер — т.к. он был уроженцем города Оффенбах. Был автором пьес для гитары, составителем Пасхальной хаггады (1838) с параллельным текстом на иврите и немецком языке и молитвенника для юношества (1839) с нотами канонических и сочиненных им мелодий.
