Иранист, тюрколог, студент МГУ, Арестован 7 ноября 1949 г. Приговорен: ОСО при МГБ СССР 24 июня 1950 г., обв.: 58-10, ч.1, 58-11. Приговор: 10 лет ИТЛ, в 1954 срок снижен до 5 лет, в авг. 1954 освобожден. После освобождения - редактор, переводчик, инициатор серии "Памятники литературы народов Востока", с 1979 профессор ун-та в Блумингтоне (США, Индиана). Места проживания: г. Москва, г.Блумингтон (США).
