Историк и писатель. Был решительным противником фашизма, отказался сотрудничать с газетой, в которой работал, после того, как она приняла курс фашистской партии. После личной просьбы короля Бельгии к Муссолини, смог покинуть Италию в 1930 году, перебравшись с семьёй в Женеву, где слава Ферреро бысто помогла найти работу.
