    Филипп не всегда занимался производством вин, дело, которое в семье начал его дед Натаниэль Ротшильд. В молодости он вёл в Париже богемный образ жизни, увлекался актрисами, участвовал в автомобильных гонках Гран-при (где, кстати, занимал высокие места) и регатах. Но в 1920 году, забросив все свои увлечения, он приезжает в своё родовое поместье Шато Мутон, где его дед начал производить вино, названное им Мутон Ротшильд. Филипп внедрил ряд успешных проектов и в том числе создал марку вина Мутон Кадет, доступную по цене для среднего покупателя, и после войны привлёк знаменитых художников (каждый год нового) к созданию этикеток для вина. В коллекции этикеток более 60 работ художников, среди них Пикассо, Шагал, Дали, Кандинский и др.
