Alperovitz
The origin of the name Alperovitz is from the city of Heilbronn in Germany. The Jews who lived there at that time adopted it as their family name. When they migrated to Poland, they added the suffix “witz,” which means “son of” in Polish.
Heilbronn/Alpert, Halperin, Gelbrin, Gelbart, and others are additional family names that originate from that same community in Germany. It is known in our family that Rabbi Yechiel ben Solomon Heilprin, who wrote the book “Seder HaDorot,” was a family member. Rabbi Yechiel ben Solomon Heilprin - the Rabbi of Minsk, was the head of a yeshiva and a historian of Jewish history. He is known for his book “Seder HaDorot,” which was published in 1769 and printed in several editions. The book includes brief biographies from the time of Adam up to the author’s generation, as well as annotations on the Talmuds.
Yechiel Heilprin was the son of Rabbi Solomon Heilprin, who was the chief rabbi of the cities Sokolov and Lubartov. On his mother’s side, he was a descendant of the Maharshal, and in “Seder HaDorot,” the author claims to possess a genealogical record listing his ancestors through Rashi, Yohanan the Sandalmaker, Rabban Gamliel, and all the way to King David.
